The joys and Tribulations of Childcare

A collection of articles written by mothers about their own experiences of raising children.

About Us

Hello and welcome to our website. My name is Charlotte Bredbury and I run a small London design studio along with my husband David. This site is one of my hobbies.

When I first started this website back in 2014 I was a first-time mother. My firstborn son, Jonathan, turned into a real handful but fortunately I had a lot of friends who had also experienced the ups and downs of giving birth over the previous few years, so I had a lot of advice to take advantage of. For a young and nervous new mum this proved absolutely invaluable.

A group of us got to talking about the shortage of real practical advice for mothers on the Internet. There were lots of books about; the problem was that (a) they took too long to wade through, considering the usual amount of time that kids take up, and (b) some of them offered advice that contradicted the advice in other publications! We decided that it was time to put our heads together and create a website giving our own experiences of different aspects of child rearing. Word soon got round about our project and we had no shortage of help from volunteers, most of whom preferred to stay anonymous and who just wanted to express their own ideas and talk about their own experiences, in the hope that it may help other mums in the future.

After we published the site several more contributors got in touch, some of whom have become good friends as a result.

We would like to stress that we are normal, everyday mothers, and we are not experts on any aspects of child-rearing, so please don't think that we are the ultimate authority on anything at all! We are just a bunch of people who hope that our experiences may be interesting for other mums, or prospective mums, to read about. We have our own views which may be right and may be wrong but at least they can be the basis for a more detailed explanation of the factors we have talked about by more qualified people.

We hope that you will find our site interesting, and thought-provoking. If you would like to submit an article to us then please do so; you will find our contact details below.

IMPORTANT!

Please be aware that the articles on this site are written by mothers who are discussing their own experiences and their own opinions. They do not, and are not meant to, represent professional advice and should be read with that point firmly in mind.

Our children’s welfare is paramount; if you are ever in the slightest doubt about any aspect of caring for a child you are urged to seek qualified, specialist advice from a professional advisor.
